I never used to think I was a big fan of contemporary, but after starting my blog, I've discovered I actually enjoy them. Usually I'm into the more cutesy, feel-good contemps, but I'm hoping to branch out and try some others this year too :]
(P.S. I have no idea what's up with my images showing up all wonky. If you click on the titles, it'll take you to their goodreads page and you can see the full images and descriptions there.)
Pizza, Love, and Other Stuff that Made Me Famous by Kathryn Williams
Publish Date: August 21, 2012
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
I absolutely adore books with food in them since it puts two of my biggest loves together. Not only does this one have that, but it also has that behind-the-scenes element since it's about a reality tv show.
Publish Date: July 3, 2012
Publisher: Farrar Straus & Giroux
First of all, awesome title, right? Second, I'm loving the idea of a rich girl who has to work 52 different low-income jobs to earn her trust fund. This is bound to be hilarious.
Seven Clues to Winning You by Kristin Walker

Cute romance plus a scavenger hunt? I am so there!
Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby
Publish Date: February 28, 2012
Publisher: Walker & Co.
Who doesn't love a good story about an average girl falling in love with a movie star? Plus, I've never read a story about someone with a paparazzi job, let alone a teen.
The International Kissing Club by Ivy Adams

I love that the characters are going to different countries for a foreign exchange program. I'm guessing that means lots of different boys...
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

I really like books that take place all in one night. It makes everything all the more exciting!
The Boy Project: Notes and Observations of Kara Mcallister by Kami Kinard
Publish Date: January 1, 2012
Publisher: Scholastic, Inc.
Guys, this book has charts and graphs in it? There's no possible way I can say no to that.
Publish Date: January 10, 2012
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
This one looks so adorable! And yeah, I have a soft spot for the best-guy-friend-love-interest thing.
Getting Over Garrett Delaney by Abby McDonald
Publish Date: January 24, 2012
Publisher: Candlewick Press
This one has the best-guy-friend-love-interest thing going for it...except it's pretty one-sided. In fact, he doesn't like her back at all and actually loves someone else. Now she has to work through getting over him. I think it's really interesting to see a story with the main story-line as getting over the guy instead of getting him.
Reunited by Hilary Weisman Graham
Publish Date: June 12, 2012
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour really got me into road trip books. This one looks especially good since it's about 3 friends who've grown apart but decide to catch their old favorite band on their final tour.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
Publish Date: June 14, 2012
Publisher: Dial Books for Young Readers
This one takes the-boy-next-door to a whole new level. It looks to have a family aspect to it that you normally don't find in a romance. This one seems more serious than what I'd usually pick up, but I can't wait to read it all the same.

I love that this one has more to it than just getting a guy. It's about the stuff that comes after too. The hard stuff like staying in love after you've fallen into it.
Life Is But a Dream by Brian James
Publish Date: March 27, 2012
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
This one looks so different than anything else I've seen lately. First, it addresses mental illness. Second, it seems like it might be pretty trippy. I mean, the main character has a mental illness, but then a boy comes along and tells her she's not crazy and the "help" she's getting will stifle her creativity. What will she end up believing?
Where It Began by Ann Redisch Stampler
Publish Date: March 6, 2012
Publisher: Simon Pulse
I love books where the main character can't remember large chucks of time and has to work through remembering what's happened since what they last remember (example: Rosebush by Michelle Jaffe).

Adorkable by Sarra Manning
Publish Date: May 24, 2012
Publisher: ATOM
I love that the main character made a career out of dorkiness. I'm pretty sure it doesn't get more awesome than that. Plus, I love that she's having an identity crisis when she starts to fall for an "Abercrombie & Fitch type".

The Best Night of Your (Pathetic) Life by Tara Altebrando
Publish Date: July 5, 2012

More scavenger hunts! I love the sense of adventure that gives a book. This one seems to be another one of the one night time lines and a possible serious undertone which I'm looking forward to
(And while we're talking about contemps, don't forget to sign up for my big sib's 2012 YA Contemporary Challenge.)

ReplyDeleteThanks for listing some of these. I have seen and forgotten some, already yes, sadly. However, now I have you!
ReplyDeleteI was an exchange student and have living in several countries. So the International Kissing Club is right up my alley! I love it!
